In the United States alone, there are more than six hundred teams throughout over fifty leagues that refer to themselves as semi-professional or minor league football teams. Player experience varies between high school, college, and professional players. Because the majority of these players are not paid for their time on the field, they show up at practice and on game day simply for the love of the game. Not only are they not paid, but they are often required to purchase their own equipment, transportation, and lodging. A lucky few will get the opportunity to shine in front of scouts and be selected to move up to the (paid) professional ranks.

It is the intent of the Gulf Coast Football Association (GCFA) to provide opportunity and challenge to semi-professional football teams to take a giant step forward and adjust their team and player attitude to reflect the professional attitude that the GCFA represents.

Pittbulls defeat Express 12-7 to win Super Bowl V

For the first time in GCFA history a first year team has entered the league to become the league champion.  The New Orleans Pittbulls became the 3rd different team in the last three seasons to win the GCFA Championship, showing that the Gulf Coast Football Association is the elite and most competitive league in the Southwest.  The Pittbulls started the scoring in the 2nd qtr when QB Kris Whittington connected on a 39 yard touchdown to WR Roy Reimonenq to  put the Pittbulls up 6-0.  The Express answered back when QB Robert Lanier scrambled and found WR Edward Davis for a 15yd scoring strike, with the extra point kick the Express led into halftime up 7-6.  In the second half both defenses were making big plays to keep the score 7-6 going into the 4th qtr.  With Kris Whittington out of the game with and injury backup QB Roy Reimonenq showed no fear to lead his team when he rolled to his right and connected with WR Brian Romanaque for a 29 yd touchdown to put the game away with a 12-7 victory.  The GCFA would like to congratulate both teams on a terrific season.
